2010 WACA Excellence

In 2010, PCI received its third and fourth "Excellence In Concrete" award from the Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association (WACA) at the industry's annual banquet on April 29, 2010.  The two awards were for second and third place in the Sustainable Merit Category.

The second place award was for our installation at Quil Ceda Creek Casino. This is the largest pervious concrete parking lot in the state of WA. This 200,000 sqft parking lot expanded the parking at the Quil Ceda Casio owned by the Tulalip Tribe in Tulalip, WA. It provided the needed additional parking capacity while protecting the adjacent Quil Ceda Creek and the Puget Sound into which it drains.

The use of pervious concrete enabled the Tulalip Tribe to maintain their unwavering commitment to protecting the water, the environment, and the fishing habitats in the Northwest, while at the same time enhancing the success of their Casino enterprise.

 Whole Lot from High Vantage

The third place award was for our project at the Washington State University Puyallup Research and Extension Center. This project is a retrofit of an existing parking lot undertaken in partnership by Washington State University and the City of Puyallup. It provides stormwater control while at the same time becoming a test facility that will enable the WSU researchers to measure the efficacy of pervious concrete to filter pollutants from the controlled stormwater. It is a wonderful example of a stormwater retrofit. The Center previously had no stormwater control or treatment infrastructure.
